We need two more casseroles for LINK this Sunday, March 7. Please contact Gwen Wiens if you can provide one.
Table Fellowship is one of the most important marks of Christian community. Much thanks to the Social Committee for it’s efforts in coordinating these upcoming events!
- Those who signed up to participate in the “friendship potlucks” will soon receive invitations from their hosts. Check your e-mail and answer your phone!
- On March 21, the social committee is organizing a potluck lunch so that we can continue our conversation with Steve Wiebe-Johnson after the service. Please bring a dish to share!
- There will be a potluck brunch at 9:30 on Easter Sunday. Please bring a “brunch” dish to share. The social committee will provide drinks.
Those women who would like to sing at the benefit for Gadugi will practice at Kirsten’s this Sunday, March 7, at 7:30pm. We will also practice March 28 and April 11 same time and place. The benefit is at the Lawrence Art Center April 17 at 7:30. All PMC women are encouraged to participate, regardless of how well you think you sing! Contact Joni Fornelli for more information.
Ever wanted to preach a sermon? Already preached a sermon and want some guidance before preaching again? Then join us for the preaching workshop. We will discuss theological and practical aspects of preaching, including information on biblical study, sermon construction, and delivery. The workshop will be Saturday, March 27, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Please e-mail Joanna or sign up at church if you plan to attend. A variety of preachers is one of the most appreciated aspects of worship here at PMC.
Sermons are now being posted at mennosermons.wordpress.com. Joanna’s sermon from this past Sunday and Thomas and Joey’s dialog sermon from Advent have been posted. From now on, Joanna will do her best to post any sermons for which she has manuscripts. If there is a past sermon you would like to have posted, please contact her.
The Ministry Team will lead a time of sharing and prayer after worship on the the third Sunday of each month. All are welcome to participate. This time is particularly designed to address the spiritual needs of those with heavy burdens and those who, for whatever reasons, prefer to share their prayer requests with a small group rather than the whole congregation. The first prayer session will actually be on the 4th Sunday—March 28—due to a potluck on the third Sunday.
Kansas Mennonite Disaster Service would like to have groups of volunteers travel to Holly, Colorado to help install sheet rock and tape the sheet rock in a small Baptist church that is being built new. The old church was mostly destroyed during a tornado on March 28, 2007. Groups will be needed the last week in March and the first week in April. Contact Gordon or Mary Unruh at 620-834-2319.
Trumpet Players? Anyone out there who has a trumpet? Please contact Twila Schmidt.
MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) is helping the struggling small farmers in the Ukraine through the change from the Soviet collective farm system to a market based economy. Steve Wright, manager of the MEDA Ukraine Project will be in Kansas Saturday, March 13, 6:00 PM for a German Buffet dinner & presentation at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. Make reservations by calling 620-896-7381. Contact the church office for more details.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Lenten Devotional. We have some wonderful artwork and writings from children and adults in the congregation. Devotionals are available at the church building.
Lenten Taize Services will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church on Friday evenings, March 5, 12, 19, and 26, at 7 p.m.
Holy Week Worship Opportunities
-
Community Holy Week Services will be held at noon the week of March 29 at Trinity Episcopal Church. The services will be led by various clergy from Lawrence. Joanna is serving as liturgist for Maundy Thursday. A light lunch is served each day except for Friday.
-
Peace Mennonite will provide cookies for the Thursday meal. We probably need about six dozen total. Please contact Joanna if you can contribute some.
-
We will have a Good Friday service beginning 7:30 p.m. on April 2. This service will include an optional foot-washing ritual and a time of meditation on the seven last words of Christ.
-
Our Easter Sunrise Service will be held on the lawn of the church at 6:45 (yes, a.m.) Easter morning (April 4). This will be a brief, informal, service of celebration.
-
The Worship Committee invites everyone to bring a vase full of whatever is blooming (in your yard) to brighten up our worship space on Easter morning! You are welcome to use a church vase.
Cindy Wiens loves to receive cards and visitors at The Windsor. Her address is in the church directory. Please contact Gwen Wiens if you are able and willing to walk with Cindy in the afternoons—once a week, once a month, or just once. Your friendship and support are much appreciated.
Hospitality Reminders for Sunday Mornings:
- The Worship Committee would like to encourage people to sit towards the left and the front of our worship space, leaving open spaces by the side entrance and in the back for visitors and those who arrive late.
- If you are able, please consider arriving a few minutes early and parking in the lot at Lyons park, just one block east of the church building. We would like to make sure there are enough parking spaces at the church for visitors, those who cannot walk from the park, those with items to unload, and those who may be running a little late.
We will have a guest speaker from Mennonite Mission Network on Sunday, March 21. Steve Wiebe-Johnson is the Regional Director for Africa. He will be speaking during the service as well as joining us for a potluck lunch after worship.
Mark you calendars!
